Liposuction vs Tummy Tuck, The Pros and Cons

Choosing between liposuction and a tummy tuck can be a difficult decision.  Depending on who you speak to, there are many differing opinions on the matter.  As with any procedure, there are pros and cons that must be considered.  Below are a few facts regarding liposuction and tummy tuck to help you make the decision that is right for you.

Liposuction Pros

  • Removes large volumes of fat
  • Skin retracts to about the same tightness as before liposuction, but with decreased volume.
  • Procedure can be done under local anesthetic while you are awake.
  • Liposuction can be done in a comfortable office setting, vs. hospital
  • Clothes fit better
  • Minimal downtime
  • Minimal scarring
  • Easy recovery
  • Affordable choice

Liposuction Cons

Tummy Tuck Pros

  • Excess skin is removed
  • Some stretch marks are removed with skin

Tummy Tuck Cons

  • Requires general anesthesia
  • Higher risk of complications
  • Requires hospital stay
  • Large scar from hip to hip
  • Difficult recovery and long downtime
  • Minimal fat is removed
  • Abnormal looking belly button with scar around this area
  • Requires drains left in wound
  • Very painful
  • “Dog ear deformity” is a pouching out of the skin around the hips that is very common with tummy tuck.
  • Very expensive

Summary

At MyShape Lipo, many of our patients are deciding between liposuction and tummy tuck.  We get a lot of patients that have already had tummy tuck and are not happy with the amount of fat that was left behind.  Although many plastic surgeons claim to do liposuction with a tummy tuck, it’s not recommended to do extensive liposuction as it may decrease the blood supply and healing potential of the large wound on the abdomen.

With liposuction, we are able to remove large volumes of fat from the abdominal area.  This will significantly reduce your waist size and allow you to fit better into your clothes.  The procedure can safely be done while you are awake in our comfortable office setting and you will walk out of our office.  If you choose to have your skin cut away with a tummy tuck, the results will be much better since your fat has already been removed.  Although most of our patients choose not to have a tummy tuck after liposuction because they are happy with the results of liposuction.  Since liposuction is done in an office, and doesn’t require general anesthesia, the cost is significantly less than a tummy tuck.  If you have more questions, the staff at MyShape Lipo is happy to assist, 702.818.5476.

  1. I simply want to mention I’m all new to weblog and absolutely savored you’re blog site. Probably I’m planning to bookmark your site . You really come with perfect stories. Regards for sharing your website page.

  2. This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

  3. The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

  4. The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

  5. I just want to tell you that I’m new to blogs and really loved you’re web-site. Very likely I’m going to bookmark your website . You certainly come with impressive articles. Cheers for revealing your web-site.
